About Vintage Groove

I’m Shelley Hughes,

a visual artist & designer/maker based on the beautiful Fleurieu Peninsula on Peramangk & Ngarrindjeri land in South Australia. 

Vintage Groove was born out of my love for mid-century modern design.

Ever since I can remember, producing art has been a constant in my life.

As a young child I would sit & sketch…trees, the cat, family members…anything that would stay still long enough!

As a young adult I became increasingly interested in retro design. Fashion, homewares, collectibles, fabrics, architecture etc

It wasn’t long before I recognised in myself a strong desire to connect my art practice to a mid-century-modern fueled design aesthetic. 

My focus changed from realism & expressionist styles & moved towards the simplicity of geometric shapes & bold colour.

After years of experimenting with styles & mediums, I was excited to discover my own unique way of expressing these ideas through hardedge supergraphic style acrylic paintings, graphic art prints on paper & fabric, sewing, woodworking & lampshade making.

Everything you'll find at Vintage Groove has been dreamed of, designed, painted & made by me in my little home studio!
